Strontium

Located at group 2 and period 5 is Strontium, the most important elements on the colored television industry. The glass used to make television have colors are called Cathode Ray Tubes, which is made of Strontium.
Some modern colored television contains Strontium too.

In 1787, an unusual rock which had been found in a lead mine at Strontian, Scotland, which was investigated by Adair Crawford. He realised that it was a new mineral containing an unknown ‘earth’ which he named it Strontia.

In 1791, Thomas Charles Hope, made a fuller investigation of it and proved it was a new element. He also noted that it caused the flame of a candle to burn red.

In 1808, Sir Humphry Davy finally isolated the new element, Strontium.
